Step-Up Day at Argo

Vithar house students are heading to Argo on Thursday, November 5th.  This is a great opportunity for your student to familiarize themselves with the high school setting.  

Lunch will be provided and there is NO cost for this field trip!

The "Welcome Back 7th Grade Dance" will be this Friday, August 21st, right after school. Students should get a permission slip from their homeroom teachers. Bring your permission slip and $2.00 to be allowed into the dance. Don't forget to bring extra money for the concession stand!

Volleyball try outs for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will be held on Monday, August 24th from 2:40 to 4:30. Students will need a signed permission slip and a current physical on file in order to try out. Hope to see you there!

Vithar students are finishing up their Language Arts PARCC tests today! On Monday and Tuesday next week they will be taking the Math tests. Students will not need a calculator for these tests because one will be provided for them. Students please continue to bring a reading book or magazines to school for Monday and Tuesday. Students have been doing an amazing job adjusting to the schedule these past few days and we are proud of their good behavior in the hallways while testing has been going on. Keep up the good work for two more days!!!

On a side note, we have recently started a typing competition among the seventh grade vithar students. Each week our five fastest typers are recognized on our team bulletin board. Last week our fastest typer was Mattie Hyde with 46.97 word per minute. This week our fastest typer was Fiona Aniceto with 72.55 words per minute! Wow! Great job girls! Who will be our fastest typer next week?! Keep practicing at home and let your teachers know if you beat your previous speed.

This week the eighth graders and elementary students have begun taking the PARCC test.

Seventh grade students will begin taking the test on March 18th! The testing will go as follows:

March 18th - 20th : Language Arts Test

March 23rd - 24th : Mathematics Test

If students finish their test early they will not be allowed to talk or leave the room (unless it is an emergency). Students are strongly encouraged to bring an independent reading book and/or school-appropriate magazines to school on these days. 

A more informative letter will be going home with the students on March 10th.

UPDATES AND REMINDERS!

The Argo field trip was a success! We were praised by the Argo staff on how well behaved the Wilkins students were throughout our visit! Well done! When students returned back to homerooms we had discussions about high school and students were able to ask more questions. A lot of the students had a ton of great questions and it was apparent that the visit got them all excited about high school.

Reminders

The Vithar House teachers would like to say thank you to all of the parents that came to Parent Teacher Conferences last week! It was great to meet with all of you!

REMINDERS:

*Don't forget about the upcoming field trip to Argo Community High School this Thursday, November 13th. All students need to have a signed permission slip in order to attend. (There is no cost.) Students that do not have a signed permission slip at this point, please ask your homeroom teacher for an extra copy tomorrow. While on the field trip, students will get a chance to take a tour of the school. They will get to visit classrooms such as the Culinary Arts classroom and the Automotive Repair classroom. Lunch will be provided by Argo in the student cafeteria and after lunch students will meet in the auditorium to watch a play put on by Argo students.

*For any students that did not pick up their report cards at parent teacher conferences, report card envelopes need to be signed and returned to homeroom teachers by the end of the week.

*Tuesday, November 18th is "Pack the Gym" night. Come on out and cheer on the undefeated girls basketball teams as they face Independence Junior High School. Seventh graders play at 3:30 and eighth graders play at 4:30. Students wear blue to school on Tuesday to show your support!
